Excessive sitting, especially while traveling, is a detriment to health and well being. Too much sitting is very stressful and not good for the work of children which is 'Play.'

HairMath
A lifelong fear of math led to an epiphany upon reading "Mathematical Patterns in African-American Hairstyles" by Black female mathematician, Dr. Gloria Gilmer.
HairMath uses hairstyling to engage young black girls with math and science. Scientific research indicates 'Feminine science' engages girls’ interest and hand gestures dramatically improve learning. Math makes you beautiful. The motto is "Black girls have a head for math.

Learning Events
Doin’ the Dutch Down Dudley is a flash mob street event developed for the City of Boston’s Cultural Affairs Department. Based on Smalls' book "Irene and the Big Fine Nickel" it highlights moving throughout the city.
Grand-families Reading is a Grand is a GrandParent's Day Salute produced by Smalls and her team for the Boston Public Library
Irene is presently working on an interactive HairMath experience for young girls and an animated cartoon series.
